EXP3 FINAL

Concept

Imagination of the bridge edges where people are programmed to move in and out periodically integrating the existing school and surrounding context with the Architecture School into one form. It is materially and spatially dynamic of both natural and synthetic/recycled materials. Organic shapes and continuous surface are designed to articulate the concept of movement.

The bridge from three buildings and entrance on each side of the road provides access to the school.

Use of innovative design and materials applied in door and window elements creates an ever-changing surface that rhythmically expands and contracts. Skylight reveal its interiors or allow light to flood in, they are kinetic windows that the blinds can fold upwards acclimated by sunlight at different times of the day. It can shade against strong sun during afternoon when there is a lecture and provides adequate day light when needed.

Skylight has a kinetic carbon steel panels which are adjustable and move vertically to shade out the strong sunlight or darker room is needed for Lecture theater room.
Hallway of the bridge, where connected both related building. People can access from the main entrances on ground floor, or pass through the bridge to the library and studios.
Skylight on each hallway provides adequate natural light into the concrete block.
Another moving element is the facade of the studio with pivotal door inspiration creating a grand entrance with materialistic simplicity that has both visual appeal and technological advance. The pivot door made of aluminium panel entering the studio space creates a focal point in the large gathering space.
With the site, the Architecture school is built above the road with supporting columns and solid materials such as concrete and steel is widely used in the building structure. Yet, remain its organic shape of the bridge and enclosed with curtain wall to provide adequate natural light into its built form.
